Abstract

This study aimed to identify secondary metabolites of ethanol extract of Copaifera luetzelburgii Harms barks (EEtOH-Cl), besides evaluating the antioxidant activity in vitro and its toxicity torats’ reproductive system. The phytochemical study identified: anthocyanidins, anthocyanins, auronas, chalcones, flavanones, flavanonóis, flavonols, leucoanthocyanidins, xanthones, strong fixed acids, and saponins. The antioxidant activity in vitro was evaluated on the production of reactive species with thiobarbituric acid, nitrite, and radical hydroxyl, which has demonstrated antioxidant activity for these parameters. The evaluation of subchronic toxicity was performed on the number, morphology, functional viability of spermatozoa, and histopathology, it showed that at doses of 125 and 250 mg/kg the mitochondrial activity was reduced, 125 mg/kg and also the acrosome integrity decrease, where there were no morphological and histopathological changes, however, the histomorphometry of the seminiferous tubules showed size reduction of the tubular diameter and height of the germinal epithelium.
