Abstract

Arthritis, a type of inflammatory disease, is a diverse group of conditions characterized by joint
inflammation that can generally affect one joint or several joints, deformity, and disability.
Approximately, 100 different types of arthritis are affected by various environmental and other causing
factors but the two most common types- osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis can also
cause inflammatory effects while over time it often carnages the joint carti whereas rheumatoid
arthritis is an autoimmune disorder, is causing symptoms of inflammatory joints throughout the body.
The use of biological agents that target cytokines such as interleukin 1 (IL-1) alpha, beta or tumor
necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and are powerful inductors of metalloproteinase (MMPs) in synovial
rheumatoid fibroblasts. They are directly involved in joint destruction. Different clinical and
demographic features of arthritis have the central role of inflammatory markers in their pathogenesis
and have allowed the development of highly effective assorted treatment strategies with wide
applicability synthetic or conventional drug including NSAIDs, corticosteroids, cytotoxic drugs, etc but
these drug associated with major side effects whereas herbal medicine like Curcuma longa, Boswellia
useful for mild to severe kinds of inflammation arthritis and lead to improved outcomes.
