Abstract

Given the growing globalized and integrated world, cultural diversity has become an important instrument of promoting peace and understanding as never before. Due to the speedy growth of diverse cultural societies and countries, migrations across national boundaries and the development of Information Communication Technologies (ICT), cultural diversity has thus become a veritable instrument of promoting international cooperation in our contemporary world. It has been posited that the encouragement of the multiplicity of cultural terms occupies the centre stage of the society. As such, the matters that emanates from cultural diversity cannot be resolved only by the actions of the state; rather they also require knowledge propagation, creation of awareness on cultural diversity and strong international collaboration and exchange of ideas. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the role of cultural diversity in the promotion of international cooperation and reasons for cultural diversity. The methodology adopted for this study is qualitative in nature, using documentary evidence and literatures from related materials on cultural diversity, the study revealed that the vision for a more equal world can only be achieved if we find ways to inculcate and spread the spirit of cultural diversity in the world around us. The author recommends total promotion of cultural diversity, as well as institutional strengthening among stakeholders in our contemporary world of globalization and integration.
