Abstract

Technical education plays a vital role in the development of any nation. Therefore, there is a need to monitor both quantity and quality in higher education meeting the international standards. Washington Accord is an international agreement among bodies responsible for engineering degree programmes. An institution is required to clearly define the Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) and Programme Outcomes (POs) and to quantify them in order to refine at regular interval of time. The PEOs and POs are attributed by both tangible and intangible parameters that make the process of evaluation complex. This paper discusses an approach to evaluate the POs and PEOs by direct method. In this method, a case study has been taken by considering the scores of the students as data to arrive at an absolute value for the POs and PEOs. This is enunciated and elaborated with all the specimen calculations to prove its feasibility and suitability for the institutions that are adopting outcome based education. Further, it is also highlighted how these attainment values of PEOs and POs help locating the deficiencies and corrective measures that are to be applied to the system to bring reformation for enhanced performance.
