Abstract

A survey was conducted on the Jats of Haryana (n = 750) and results were compared with samples of Jat Sikhs (n = 937). Both the samples included parameters like ABO blood group, colour vision, hairy pinna, mid-phalangeal hair, ear lobe attachement, arm folding and leg folding. Results of some parameters shows Caucasoids affinity in a broader sense. Comparison of Haryanvi Jats and Jats Sikhs suggest that though the two castes, to a large extent are reproductively isolated, they have parallel development and ethnic relationship. This is evident from the fact that similarly has been observed between the two groups with respect to distribution of genetic traits like ABO blood groups and other traits under investigation despite the lack of interbreeding for several generations suggesting thereby a common origin.
